What is Target Oriented Golf?
Simply hit the play button below to listen to a 30min introduction, this talented guy did and can clearly play golf when target oriented:
"I have spent the last 8 years studying the mechanics of the golf swing; as a unintended consequence, I have forgotten how to play golf. I can teach the swing and really enjoy doing so but I have forgotten how to play. I had just come off a blow up round of 88 in an AM qualifying event. I was mentally and physically exhausted. In searching the internet one night I came across your interview on Golf Smarter. I usually listen to my Portuguese lessons on the drive to work but instead I listened to your interview. I found your approach quite logical especially the discussion on anxiety.
Long story short, my next round of golf came on the same course as the 88. I set out to play the round with your methods in mind (from the interview). As a result, I had a very enjoyable round of golf. I managed to post 75, with a one under 35 on the front. I got a ahead of myself on the back nine. Looking back on it, I found myself thinking about my score instead of my target when I played the back nine; as a result the anxiety crept in.
Anyway, I wanted to say thank you for the wake up call.
I look forward to watching your DVD and learning more about Target Oriented Golf."

Let me speak frankly for there is no alternative. Technical golf instructors are trained to see poor technique as the CAUSE of a poor shot. If you were a headless golfing machine, I would always agree with them 100%. Fortunately, you are human. Target Oriented Golf will demonstrate why a poor swing or putt is often SYMPTOMATIC of elevated arousal states due to poor attentional focus skills. You are not a machine and learning how to play from the neck down is not learning golf, it's learning how to swing. The skills presented will take time to master but until you develop an awareness of mind on course you will continue to play inconsistent golf, irrespective of your technical ability. Take the time to learn how to play target oriented golf and in turn you will discover how to TRUST, not control, your swing and putting stroke as you do with EVERY other life skill.
Do you think golf is a unique life skill any more complex than driving a car or learning how to dance? It is not. How you are currently taught the game is unique and herein lay the problems you continue to experience. I present here an opportunity for you to learn how to play golf intuitively and care free but never careless. You know the alternative. Every time you have the 1.5 second technical golf lesson, unwittingly your technical instructor takes your attention away from the target and on to the control of a specific body part. They are not trained to coach your mind's attentional focus system and unfortunately, neither are you currently. They see and you see your physical behaviour. The consequence of this is for the rest of your golfing life, you practice and play golf with no target in mind as your instructor switches your attention from one body part to another striving for the perfect swing. Let me emphasise that this is not done maliciously, it's simply the consequences of their methods which you accept for everyone teaches you golf the same way. Your golf will remain frustratingly inconsistent. You end up looking at targets but never seeing them as you anxiously return your attention to your dominant practice behaviour, the control of your swing or potential outcomes of your shot. If this is your dominant practice mentality, how do you think you will perform in competitive situations? It requires just 1 erroneous conscious thought during your entire pre and post shot to kill your swing and putting stroke in an instant due to elevated arousal and loss of target. It is during this period of time before you swing where golf performance lives. Until you understand why, where AND learn how to guide your attention focus every second throughout your entire routines, you will never see your targets and inconsistency will be your one true golfing companion. I offer here an alternative to that reality.
"Hi Colin Ive just come home from my club championship and I won by 6 shots! (2 rounds of golf) I must say I genuinley owe it to you 100% as I have found an awareness that I never had before! I shot 67 in my 1st round, 4 birdies and an eagle, and 75 in my second round (maybe just a coincidence but exacly the same scoreas the man who shot an 88 then 75 on your website, I was 1 under through 9, then got ahead of myself, and took an unncessesary risk which cost me an 8!) I will definitely look into coming to a workshop as today has proved to me (if I needed any more!) that TOG is incredibly important, well, the most important aspect of good golf. The strange thing is that it doesnt feel like I struck the ball particurlaly well, but just seemed to get the job done. I hope to meet you sometime in the near future and discover more! Cheers, Sam (Hainsworth Park club champion!) " Click HERE to see how to develop a discipline of mind for golf on the range....
